Mahama Expresses Confidence In Ghana’s 26 Man-Squad

Former President John Dramani has shared his confidence in the Black Stars ahead of the commencement of the 2022 FIFA World Cup tournament in Qatar on Sunday, November 20.

On Tuesday, Head Coach for the Black Stars, Otto Addo announced his final 26 players for the tournament.

They are Manaf Nurudeen, Danlad Ibrahim, Lawrence Ati Zigi, Denis Odoi, Tariq Lamptey, Alidu Seidu, Daniel Amartey, Joseph Aidoo, Alexander Djiku, Mohammed Salisu, Abdul-Rahman Baba, Gideon Mensah.

The rest include Andre Ayew, Thomas Partey, Elisha Owusu, Salis Abdul Samed, Mohammed Kudus, Daniel Kofi Kyereh, Daniel Barnieh Afriyie, Kamal Sowah, Issahaku Abdul Fatawu, Osman Bukari, Inaki Williams, Antoine Semenyo, Jordan Ayew and Kamaldeen Sulemana.

Describing them as “gallant”, Mahama said they represent the “hopes of an expectant nation for success on the global stage”.

“They have toiled through qualification and secured us the right to be counted among the best 32 footballing nations on earth. That is, in itself, significant and worth celebrating. Now the time has come to stake a claim to the world cup trophy itself and I believe our Black Stars have what it takes to go all the way.”

He recalled that “The Black Stars brought us immeasurable joy in 2006 and 2010 when they lifted the banner of Ghana and Africa so high that the world took notice. From all indications, they stand poised to do so again at the 2022 edition in Qatar.”

He further called on the citizens to rally behind them as they play away from home, noting that it is the country’s national duty.

“It must be our patriotic duty as citizens to give them our full support, and as Ghanaians, we must see this as a call to national duty.

“We might hold different views in our politics, religion, or ethnicity, but the Black Stars are the only senior national team we have, and we have always been united in rallying behind our team.”

The tournament will begin on November 20 and end on December 18.

Ghana is in Group H of the 2022 FIFA World Cup together with Portugal, Uruguay and South Korea.

Black Stars will first play against Portugal on November 24.
