Our Transmission Lines Carry Up To 330,000 Volts- GRIDCo Warns

The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) has renewed its warning to the public against living or working within its transmission Right-of-Way (RoW) corridors, cautioning that the practice poses severe danger to lives and property.

In a public education notice, GRIDCo explained that while domestic power supply is 240 Volts, its transmission lines carry extremely high voltages of up to 330,000 Volts.

The company said its transmission network operates at 69,000 Volts, 161,000 Volts, 225,000 Volts and 330,000 Volts, making any form of encroachment on the corridors extremely hazardous.

According to GRIDCo, living or working within the transmission line corridors is dangerous because if a transmission line or tower collapses within an encroached area, the consequences can be fatal.

“Lives, livestock and property within the RoW are all exposed to serious risk,” the company cautioned.

GRIDCo stressed that keeping the Right-of-Way clear is not only to protect the national power system from interference and damage but also to protect lives and property.

“A clear RoW protects lives, property and the power system,” it added.

The Company has been undertaking sensitization campaigns to stop encroachers, including developers, traders and farmers, from operating directly under its high-voltage lines across the country.
