Ghana to Invest $200m in Tree Crops as Trade Minister Pushes Africa-Wide Cashew Alliance

The Government of Ghana is committing approximately US$200 million to tree-crop production, with the cashew industry expected to be a major beneficiary.

This was disclosed by the Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, at the closing ceremony and gala dinner of the 2026 African Cashew Alliance (ACA) Conference and Expo in Accra.

The conference, held from September 15 to 18, 2026, brought together stakeholders from across the continent to deliberate on the future of the cashew sector.

Hon. Ofosu-Adjare said the investment is part of the government’s strategy to expand production, boost local processing and create jobs along the value chain, while commending the Tree Crops Development Authority and the Ministry of Food and Agriculture for convening the industry dialogue.

She used the occasion to call for stronger regional cooperation among African cashew-producing countries, urging nations such as Côte d’Ivoire, Benin, Nigeria, Tanzania and Mozambique to view one another not as competitors for export markets, but as partners in building a competitive, value-added and globally resilient African cashew industry.
