KMA Warns Developers Against Using Roads And Pavements For Construction Activities

The Management of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has cautioned property owners, developers, contractors, and construction companies against using public roads, pavements, drains, road reservations, and other public spaces for construction activities.

In a press release dated September 18, 2026, the Assembly said it has observed that some developers and contractors are placing materials such as sand, stones, blocks, cement, iron rods, timber and other equipment on public roads and pavements.

According to the KMA, the practice obstructs the free movement of pedestrians and vehicles, creates safety hazards, contributes to traffic congestion, damages public infrastructure and inconveniences residents and road users.

The Assembly, therefore, gave all developers, property owners and contractors a final notice to remove all construction materials currently placed on roads, pavements, drains, road reservations and other unauthorised public spaces.

Effective 1st October 2026, it will begin strict enforcement of the directive, during which anyone found culpable will face enforcement action in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.

The KMA added that where construction materials are removed from unauthorised locations by the Assembly, such materials may, in accordance with appropriate legal and administrative procedures, be donated to identified needy schools and other deserving public institutions.

Developers have been advised to make proper arrangements for the storage of construction materials within their approved development sites and to ensure that construction activities do not obstruct roads, pedestrian walkways, drains or other public infrastructure.

The Assembly further called on residents, traditional authorities, developers, contractors and all stakeholders to support the enforcement exercise, noting that keeping public spaces clear is a shared responsibility and is essential to maintaining a safe, accessible and orderly Kumasi.

It also reminded developers to comply with their approved building plans, development conditions, and all relevant planning, building and environmental requirements.
