Police Arrest 32-Year-Old Ex-Convict for Impersonating Soldier, Extortion

The Tema Regional Police Command has arrested a 32-year-old man for allegedly impersonating a military officer and extorting money from residents in Ashaiman.
The suspect, identified as Bright Atsu Kudiabor, an ex-convict, was arrested on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at about 7:00 a.m.
According to a press release from the Public Affairs Unit of the Regional Police Headquarters, Tema, signed by ASP Dede Dzakpasu, the suspect was allegedly found at an area known as “I Shall Return” in Ashaiman, parading himself as a soldier and extorting money from unsuspecting victims.
The Police said the suspect was initially apprehended by personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service in Ashaiman with assistance from other persons and handed over to the Police.
A search conducted on him led to the recovery of a set of military camouflage uniform.
The suspect is currently in Police custody, assisting with investigations and will be processed for court upon completion of investigations.
The Tema Regional Police Command has cautioned the public to be vigilant and report persons who falsely present themselves as soldiers or personnel of other security agencies to deceive or extort money from members of the public.
