Dr Anthony Akoto Osei To Be Buried Next Month

The family of the late and former Member of Parliament for Tafo Constituency, Dr Anthony Akoto Osei has released the date for his final funeral rites.

This was officially disclosed to some executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) during a visit this week.

In a Tweet, the General Secretary of the Party said the executives were informed about arrangements for his burial on April 15, 2023.

“The family of the late Dr Anthony Akoto Osei disclosed that he will be laid in state at the Holy Spirit Cathedral in Accra on April 15, 2023, and buried at the Lashibi Funeral Home on the same day.”

The final funeral rites will be held the same day at the Holy Spirit Cathedral.

This will then be followed by a thanksgiving service at the Christ the King Catholic Church in Accra on April 16, 2023.

The death of the former MP was announced on March 20 by the Parliament of Ghana in a Facebook post.

He died aged 64.

Dr Osei had his secondary education at the Achimota School and Opoku Ware Senior High School and furthered at Oberlin College in Ohio where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in economics.

He had a Master of Arts degree in Applied Economics from the American University in the USA. He also graduated from Howard University in 1987 with a PhD in economics.

He spent four terms in Parliament on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party after elections in 2004, 2008, 2012 and 2016.

He served as deputy minister for Finance and Economic Planning under President John Agyekum Kufour from 2003 but was later appointed substantive Minister.

In 2017, he was appointed the Minister for Monitoring and Evaluation under the Akufo-Addo-led government.
