Gunmen Attack Dakpema’s Palace In Tamale

Traditional authorities have confirmed that a group of unknown gunmen stormed the Dakpema palace in Tamale in the early hours of Monday, March 7.

According to palace sources, two people were shot during the attack.

The police have yet to establish the motive for the incident, but insiders suggest it could be tied to the Overlord of Dagbon Yaa Naa Abubakar Mahama II’s recent command that Dakpema Fuseini Bawa stop playing talking drums in the castle.

Some traditional rulers, particularly the Sagnarigu, Lamashegu, and Nanton chiefs, had previously petitioned the Tamale Metropolitan Security Council and the Northern Regional Security Council to cease the talking drums, claiming the Dakpema lacked the authority to do so.

Meanwhile, according to Northern Regional Crime Officer Superintendent Bernard Baba Ananga, the police are on the lookout for 15 unidentified gunmen who allegedly stormed the Dakpema palace.
