N/R: Five Arrested, Firearms and Drugs Seized In Police Operation
Five suspects have been arrested while firearms, narcotics and other exhibits have been recovered in a targeted police operation at Aboabo in the Tamale Metropolis.
The operation was carried out by the Northern Regional Command through its Special Operations team, popularly known as RED MARIA, on September 21, 2026, at about 11:30 a.m., to clamp down on drug peddling, drug use and other related criminal activities.
According to a press release issued by the Public Affairs Unit of the Regional Police Headquarters on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, the team acted on credible information and proceeded to the Tamale Aboabo scraps area, near the forest.
The arrested suspects have been identified as Ibrahim Issahaku, 39, Mohammed John, 28, Mohammed Nawas, 25, Mohammed Osman Awal, 41, and Kwame Boateng, 28.
A search conducted at the residence of Ibrahim Issahaku resulted in the recovery of two foreign-made pistols with two rounds of 9mm ammunition, one parcel of suspected Indian hemp and GH¢1,880.00 in cash.
Additionally, GH¢18,825.00, suspected to be proceeds from the sale of narcotic drugs, was found concealed inside the motorcycle of Kwame Boateng at the ghetto.
Other exhibits recovered from the scene included 123 wraps of suspected Indian hemp, 12 sachets of 1mg Rohypnol, seven sachets of 250mg Tramadol, 111 wraps of suspected ashes and three motorbikes.
The suspects, together with the exhibits, have been handed over to the Regional Drug Law Enforcement Unit for further investigation and necessary action.
The Regional Command says the operation reflects its continued efforts through the RED MARIA Team to combat crime, particularly illicit drug trafficking and use within the region, and will continue to sustain intelligence-led operations to disrupt drug-related activities.
