Don’t Turn Away Students Over Trunks And Chop Boxes- GES Warns Heads
Management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) says it will sanction any Head of school who turns away fresh students over trunks and chop boxes.
Professor Smile Gavua Dzisi, Deputy Director-General (Management Services), gave the warning during unannounced visits to schools across the country to welcome fresh students and interact with parents and staff.
Representing the Director-General, Prof. Dzisi offered support to the freshers, interacted with them to understand how they are settling into their new learning communities, and encouraged them to study hard, remain disciplined and make their parents proud.
She also interacted with staff, especially Heads of Schools, and reiterated Management’s directive that no Head should turn a student away over trunks and chop boxes, emphasising that no student should be denied their right to education simply because of the items.
“Any Head reported to Management for flouting the directive would face the appropriate sanctions,” she warned.
The Service said the unannounced visits will continue throughout the academic year as part of efforts to obtain real-time, first-hand information from schools, to enable it to identify challenges promptly and take informed decisions.
According to GES, through the engagements, Management is also able to assess the implementation of its policies and directives at the school level, listen directly to concerns from staff and students, and provide guidance where necessary.
The Ghana Education Service reiterated its commitment to ensuring that every student is welcomed into a safe, supportive and conducive learning environment, and that no administrative practice becomes a barrier to accessing education.
