Govt Ready for Private Sector Partnership to Complete Agenda 111 — Akandoh

The Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, says the government has opened opportunities for private sector partnership to complete the remaining hospitals under the previous administration’s Agenda 111 project.

He reported that none of the facilities was ready for use as of the time the previous government exited in January 2025 despite spending GH¢4.8 billion on the project.

“GH¢4.8 billion was spent with none of the facilities ready for use as of the time the government exited in January 2025,” he reported to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene during a courtesy visit on July 24, 2026.

That notwithstanding, Mr Akandoh said the current government intended to leverage private sector partnerships to accelerate completion of the remaining hospitals.

“The government has opened opportunities for private sector partnership to complete the remaining hospitals,” he stated.

He added that the partnership model is expected to mobilise additional resources, expertise, and speed up delivery to bridge Ghana’s healthcare infrastructure gap.

Meanwhile, he said the current government has prioritised the completion of 35 of the hospitals.

Among those earmarked are the Trede and Oforikrom hospitals in the Ashanti Region.

He explained that the focus is to ensure that resources already invested do not go to waste and that communities begin to benefit from the facilities as soon as possible.

The Health Minister was accompanied by the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, the Director-General of the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Samuel Akoriyea Kaba, and other officials.
