Fair Wages and Salaries Commission Tasked to Resolve Staff Grievances

The Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) has been tasked to lead urgent engagements to resolve staff grievances within the National Lottery Authority (NLA).

The directive was given at a crucial high-level stakeholder meeting convened by the Ministry of Employment, Labour, and Jobs, led by the sector Minister, Hon. Dr Rashid Hassan Pelpuo.

The meeting was called to address mounting labour agitations between the NLA workforce and leadership over conditions of service, operational bottlenecks and administrative concerns, in a bid to avert prolonged disruption to the Authority’s revenue mobilisation and restore industrial calm.

The engagement brought together the Minister for Employment, Labour, and Jobs alongside senior ministry officials, the Board Chairman of the NLA, Mr Frederick Amissah, the Director-General, Alhaji Abdul-Salam, and executive representatives of the NLA Labour Union.

Also in attendance was the Chief Executive Officer of the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission, Dr George Graham.

Discussions at the closed-door meeting focused on the primary grievances raised by the workforce, chief among them the substantial salary losses suffered by staff as a result of taxation-related deductions, in addition to wider operational issues impacting daily duties and general staff welfare.

In a decisive move to achieve a lasting resolution, the sector Minister directed Dr George Graham to immediately spearhead technical engagements between the NLA management and the labour union.

Under the mandate, the FWSC boss will lead tripartite discussions aimed at finalising clear modalities and structured timelines to ensure that affected staff are fully compensated for their tax-induced salary losses and that broader welfare concerns are addressed.
