Health Ministry Extends Reporting Deadline For Nurses And Allied Health Professionals
The Ministry of Health has extended the deadline for reporting to duty for nurses and allied health professionals who recently applied for postings to various districts to August 31, 2026.
The Ministry, in a statement issued by its Spokesperson, Tony Goodman, on 24th August, 2026, said the extension constitutes the final notice to all affected professionals.
According to the Ministry, those who have applied, gone through interviews and screening and have duly reported to their assigned facilities or duty posts have commenced the processes for mechanisation, with some already receiving their salaries.
The Ministry also sought to clarify the recruitment, posting and salary payment processes to address misleading information currently being circulated.
It said the Ministry of Health receives Financial Clearance from the Ministry of Finance, after which it opens the recruitment portal for eligible applicants. Professionals apply for posting to their preferred districts and undergo interviews in their respective districts. Successful applicants accept their postings to the assigned facilities.
The facility then confirms the applicant’s assumption of duty and submits the necessary documentation to the Ghana Health Service (GHS), Christian Health Association of Ghana (CHAG), and other agencies as applicable.
An appointment letter is generated from the various agencies to enable the applicant to complete the processes required for salary input. Following completion of the salary input process, the worker’s salary is validated by the facility and paid by the Controller and Accountant General’s Department (CAGD).
“For the avoidance of doubt, every recruited professional is required to go through these processes before salary payment can be effected to ensure the right people are paid to avoid payments for work not done and/or creation of ghost names,” the Ministry stated.
The Ministry has therefore directed all Human Resource Directors and relevant officers to expedite the necessary processes to ensure that all eligible professionals who have reported for duty are promptly captured and processed for salary payment.
Directors and Managers have been instructed to use the September data entry window to mechanise all professionals who have assumed duty.
The Ministry warned that professionals who fail to report by the deadline, without an approved and justifiable reason, will have their names removed from the recruitment and posting system and will be replaced through a mop-up exercise which will be carried out in the first week of September.
The Ministry urged all affected professionals to take advantage of the final extension and report to their assigned facilities within the stipulated period.
