Business Statement Presented as Parliament Resumes Under Emergency Recall

The Majority Leader, Hon. Mahama Ayariga, has presented the Business Statement for the emergency recall of Parliament ending Friday, 28th August, 2026.

Presenting the statement on the floor, Hon. Ayariga noted that the notice of the recall is to consider urgent Parliamentary Business which cannot be deferred to a later date.

He explained that the House is expected to consider, among others, the presentation and First Reading of key Bills, namely the Banks and Specialised Deposit-Taking Institutions (Amendment) Bill, 2026 and the National Petroleum Authority Bill, 2026.

In addition, the Appointments Committee of Parliament is expected to vet new ministerial nominees and Justices of the Supreme Court.

According to the Business Statement, Hon. Mahama Ayariga has been nominated as Minister-designate for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, while Hon. Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings has been nominated as Minister-designate for Environment, Science and Technology.

The Committee will also vet three nominated Justices of the Supreme Court as part of the urgent business for the emergency meeting.
