A/R: IGP Special Operations Team Arrests Seven in Intelligence-Led Narcotics Operation
The IGP Special Operations Team has arrested seven persons in the Ashanti Region in separate intelligence-led operations targeting narcotic-related activities.
The arrests were made on Thursday, August 20, 2026, at Ejisu, Abrepo Junction and Atimatim, according to a press release issued by the Ashanti Regional Police Command on August 21, 2026, and signed by the Head of the Public Affairs Unit, Superintendent Godwin Ahianyo.
The release explained that the operations were undertaken following intelligence gathered on suspected narcotic activities, with the objective of identifying and apprehending persons involved in the possession, control and use of narcotic substances.
At Ejisu, the police arrested two persons, Nana Kwabena Adu, aged 42, and Nana Kwame Fella, aged 48.
At Abrepo Junction, four persons were arrested, namely Stephanie Anokye, 23, Roland Anokye, 20, Gideon Owusu, 30, and Grace Fosu, 27.
At Atimatim, the team arrested Kofi Opoku, aged 27, who was suspected to be involved in the peddling of narcotic substances and had reportedly evaded arrest on previous occasions.
The operations led to the recovery of quantities of pill pouches containing dried leaves suspected to be narcotic substances, as well as quantities of Tramadol 225mg and 250mg, Royal 255mg and Rophynol 100mg.
The police also retrieved 860 tablets and capsules of Tramadol suspected to be unregistered drugs, together with an unspecified amount of Ghanaian currency.
All seven suspects are currently in police custody and are assisting with investigations.
The ongoing investigations are intended to establish the source of the substances, determine the full extent of the suspects’ involvement, and identify any other persons who may be connected to the suspected activities.
The Command has urged members of the public to continue providing credible information to the police to support efforts to maintain public safety and security, and assured that further updates will be provided as and when necessary.
