MASLOC Clarifies Guidelines For Microcredit Group Loans

The Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC) has clarified the guidelines governing its Microcredit (Group Loan) facility, particularly with respect to group composition, facility limits and disbursement.
In a statement dated August 24, 2026 and issued from the Office of the President, MASLOC said it administers different categories of loan facilities, each with its own requirements and processes, and that the clarification relates specifically to the Microcredit (Group Loan).
According to the Centre, its programmes are designed to provide accessible financial support to eligible Ghanaians, particularly underserved women, youth and other vulnerable groups, without regard to religion, ethnicity or political affiliation.
Under the Microcredit Scheme, a group must comprise between five and twenty-five members, with a maximum facility of GH¢50,000 per group. The maximum facility attributable to an individual member is GH¢5,000, subject to the prescribed assessment and approval process.
The Centre said these limits are provided for in its approved Operations Manual.
MASLOC further clarified that all its loan facilities attract a 2.5% processing fee, which may be deducted from the approved loan amount at the point of disbursement.
The fee, it said, is provided for in the Centre’s Operations Manual and is not a discretionary charge imposed on particular beneficiaries.
The Centre explained that the amount received by a beneficiary may therefore differ from the gross amount approved, depending on applicable authorised deductions, including the processing fee.
Beneficiaries have been encouraged to rely on the terms of their approved facilities and official documentation, with concerns regarding individual transactions to be referred to MASLOC through appropriate official channels for verification.
MASLOC emphasized that its loan facilities are not grants or free funds but repayable financial facilities, and beneficiaries are required to meet their repayment obligations in accordance with the terms of their respective loan agreements.
