Police Arrest Ayitey Powers Over Alleged Death Threat Against NSA Boss

The Accra Regional Police Command has arrested former professional boxer Michael Ayitey Okai, popularly known as “Ayitey Powers,” over an alleged threat of death made against the Director-General of the National Sports Authority, Mr Yaw Ampofo.

The arrest was confirmed in a press release issued by the Regional Public Affairs Unit of the Ghana Police Service on 24th August, 2026.

According to the Police, the 46-year-old former boxer was arrested on 24th August, 2026, in connection with the alleged threat. The arrest follows a video circulating on social media in which the suspect is alleged to have issued the threat.

The suspect, Michael Ayitey Okai, is currently in Police custody assisting with investigations.

The Accra Regional Police Command has assured the public that investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged threat and to take appropriate action in accordance with the law.

The Command further urged the public to refrain from spreading unverified information concerning the matter while investigations are ongoing.
