Police Warn Motorists Against Fake Traffic Fine Messages as Traffitech-GH Takes Off

The Ghana Police Service has warned motorists and vehicle owners to be vigilant against fraudsters sending fake traffic violation messages, as the new automated traffic law enforcement system, Traffitech-GH, takes effect.

The Police said genuine traffic violation notifications under the system will only come from the official Sender ID, GPS-MTTD, and will not be sent from an ordinary mobile phone number.

Motorists who receive a notification are advised to first check the Sender ID before taking any further action.

They should then open their Electronic Notice of Violation (ENV) or ticket to view and confirm the vehicle’s photograph and number plate, as well as the location, date, and time of the alleged violation, and watch the video where available.

The Police explained that payment for a verified fine can only be made through two approved channels.

The first is through the NIB Payment Portal by clicking on the link traffitech-ghpay.nib.com.gh, selecting Make Payment, entering the Ticket Number, checking the details and following the payment prompts.

The second is through USSD by dialling _710_0# and following the prompts to pay using the Ticket Number.

In an important safety reminder, the Police strongly advised motorists and vehicle owners to remain vigilant and avoid falling victim to fraud. Motorists should never pay a traffic fine into a personal mobile-money number or through any unofficial account.

The warning comes after the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) launched the Traffitech-GH project, which officially took effect on November 1, 2026, to automate the enforcement of road traffic laws and regulations in Ghana.
