Communication Ministry Receives Final Report on Ghana’s Digital Terrestrial Television Platform

The Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations has received the final report of the Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT), Committee — a key step in Government’s drive to secure the long-term sustainability, governance and efficiency of Ghana’s digital broadcasting platform.

The Committee was set up by the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, MP, following broad stakeholder consultations.

Its mandate was to conduct an independent review of the DTT platform and assess its operational, financial and governance structures, then propose evidence-based recommendations to guide future policy.

The review was prompted by concerns about the platform’s long-term viability, infrastructure management, governance, and cost to broadcasters.

As part of its work, the Committee engaged widely with key players in the broadcasting sector, including the National Communications Authority (NCA), Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), Ghana Independent Broadcasters Association (GIBA), National Media Commission ( NMC), K-Net, and other industry stakeholders.

Receiving the report, Hon. Samuel Nartey George described it as “an important milestone in our collective efforts to ensure the long-term sustainability, efficiency and effective governance of Ghana’s Digital Terrestrial Television platform.”

He said the process showed the value of “open, transparent dialogue, mutual respect, and a shared commitment to finding practical solutions to national challenges” between government and industry.

The Minister added that the submission “marks the beginning of the next phase” of efforts to strengthen the DTT platform. He assured stakeholders that the Ministry will thoroughly review the findings and hold further consultations before any implementation decisions are made.

He also commended the Committee and all participating institutions for their dedication, noting that their work provides Government with “a strong foundation on which to make informed policy decisions.”

The Ministry expressed appreciation to the Committee Chair, members, and all stakeholder institutions for their expertise and collaboration on the national assignment.
