We’re Committed to Building a Safer Ghana – VP Naana Opoku-Agyemang

Vice President, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting the Ministry of the Interior in delivering on its mandate to build a safer and more secure Ghana.
During a working visit to the Ministry on Thursday, July 10, 2026, as part of her engagements with Ministries, Departments, and Agencies, she assured that the government would offer the requisite support to the Ministry to enhance its mandate.
“I reaffirm Government’s commitment to supporting the Ministry in delivering on its mandate and encourage all officers and staff to remain focused on realising the government’s vision to build a safer and more secure Ghana,” she added.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang commended the Minister and management for the dedication of officers across the various agencies.
She noted that the Ministry carries one of Government’s most important responsibilities.
“Security remains essential to development and national progress,” the Vice President stated.
The veep stressed that while strong laws and institutions are vital, public education is equally important.
“Sustainable security cannot be achieved through legislation alone; citizens must understand the purpose of our laws and willingly support their implementation,” she said.
The Vice President also underscored the need to strengthen the relationship between security personnel and the public by fostering trust and respect, and highlighted the importance of expertise in maintaining the equipment and technologies deployed across the security services.
Meanwhile, the Vice President was briefed on the Ministry’s work and that of its eleven agencies in safeguarding public safety, strengthening border and migration management, promoting disaster preparedness, identity management, digital transformation, and institutional reforms.
The Ministry also highlighted ongoing reforms aimed at strengthening the rule of law and public safety, including the passage of the Community Service Act, proposed parole regulations currently before Parliament, and intensified efforts to combat narcotics through enhanced prosecutorial powers, public education, and the seizure of assets linked to illicit drug trafficking.
