Veep and Prez Lead National General Cleaning Exercise

Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang  this morning joined citizens for the National General Cleaning Exercise at the Nungua Market and around the Presidency precincts, as government ramps up efforts to promote environmental sanitation nationwide.

The Vice President was joined by market women, traders, youth groups, and sanitation workers to desilt drains, sweep, and evacuate refuse around the busy Nungua Market and its environs.

She also took part in cleaning activities within the Presidency area, calling on Ghanaians to make cleanliness a daily habit.

President John Dramani Mahama has also set off to participate in the exercise. He is expected to join cleaning activities at various locations across the Accra Metropolis as part of the nationwide campaign.

Speaking during the exercise, government officials underscored that the initiative reflects the administration’s commitment to environmental sanitation and collective civic responsibility.

They noted that keeping communities clean is key to preventing disease outbreaks, improving public health, and creating a more attractive environment for business and tourism.

The National General Cleaning Exercise is part of broader government efforts to institutionalise regular sanitation activities and encourage citizens to take ownership of their surroundings.
