Foreign Affairs Ministry Issues Travel Advisory For Tijjaniya Pilgrims To Senegal, Urges Air Travel Over Road

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a travel advisory to members of the Tijjaniya Muslim Movement of Ghana embarking on pilgrimage to Senegal, urging them to exercise heightened caution in making their travel arrangements.

In a statement dated August 21, 2026, the Ministry said while Senegal remains safe for travellers, concerns have arisen regarding security situations along certain road corridors leading to Dakar, particularly for persons undertaking long-distance journeys by road.

“Travellers are urged to take these security considerations into account when planning their journeys,” the Ministry stated.

In view of the concerns, the Ministry strongly advised prospective travellers and pilgrims to consider travel by air as the most preferred, safe and secure means of transportation.

“Those who may already be making arrangements to travel by road are hereby urged to reconsider such plans and opt for air travel,” it added.

The Ministry urged Tijjaniya Muslim pilgrims as well as prospective travellers to adhere to the advisory and prioritise their personal safety and security.

It further reiterated its unwavering commitment to the welfare, safety and protection of Ghanaian nationals and said it will continue to monitor the situation closely with relevant international partners.
