Global Mercy Docks At Port Of Tema For First-Ever Field Service In Ghana

The Minister for Health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has welcomed the hospital ship Global Mercy to Ghana, marking its first-ever visit to the country and the fifth Mercy Ships field service in Ghana.
The Global Mercy, which has docked at the Port of Tema, will provide free life-changing surgeries, dental care and professional training during its 10-month stay.
According to the Ministry of Health, about 2,000 life-changing surgeries will be delivered free of charge aboard the Global Mercy as part of the field service.
Thousands more will receive free dental care, while hundreds of Ghanaian surgeons, nurses and other health professionals will be trained to deepen their expertise.
The Ministry estimates that between 1,950 and 2,600 free surgeries and 1,610 to 2,145 free dental treatments will be carried out, with 100 to 250 healthcare professionals receiving training.
“We say Akwaaba – welcome to Ghana. Success will be measured not only in operations performed, but in patients transformed, professionals strengthened, and a legacy that outlasts the ship’s stay,” Hon. Akandoh said.
