Uphold Professionalism- Deputy Chieftaincy Minister to Houses of Chiefs’ Registrars

Deputy Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Hon. Rita Naa Odoley Sowah, has urged Registrars of the National and Regional Houses of Chiefs to uphold professionalism, integrity and continuous learning to strengthen traditional governance institutions.

Speaking at the opening of a two-day Capacity-Building Workshop for Registrars at the Institute of Local Government Studies in Ogbojo on Wednesday, 22nd July 2026, she said the effectiveness of chieftaincy depends not only on the wisdom and leadership of traditional authorities but also on the competence and dedication of the administrative and technical officers who support them.

Hon. Sowah described Registrars as the administrative backbone of Regional Houses of Chiefs and Traditional Councils.

She noted that they provide critical support to judicial committees, maintain institutional records, coordinate proceedings, and serve as a bridge between traditional authorities and the public administration system.

She observed that the increasing complexity of chieftaincy governance and the changing demands of public administration require continuous skills enhancement. According to her, Registrars must balance public service administrative requirements with the expectations and traditions of customary governance.

The Deputy Minister said the workshop was designed to strengthen participants’ practical knowledge in judicial administration, human resource management, leadership, institutional governance and the traditional-administrative interface.

She stressed that a clear understanding of roles, professional boundaries and reporting relationships is essential to maintaining harmony and improving institutional performance.

Hon. Sowah further urged participants to uphold high standards of integrity, accountability and impartiality, noting that public confidence in traditional governance institutions depends significantly on ethical conduct and faithful service.

She reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to strengthening the institutional capacity of the chieftaincy sector and enhancing collaboration between traditional authorities and the public service.

She encouraged participants to actively engage in the workshop, share experiences, and develop practical solutions to challenges confronting their respective institutions.
