Traditional System and Modern Government Must Complement Each Other- King Mswati III

According to the Monarch of Eswatini Kingdom, King Mswati III, the traditional leadership system and the modern government will be effective when they complement and not conflict each another.
His Majesty said this with reference to how Dr Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana’s first President and other African political leaders collaborated with traditional leaders to fight towards colonial independence.
“Traditional system and modern government are not in conflict but can and must complement one another,” he said in his address to the National House of Chiefs in Kumasi on June 25, 2025.
He, therefore, expressed his delight at how the Ghanaian government was coexisting with traditional leaders.
“We are so happy to see the government coexist with traditional leadership. Governments come and go every four years in elections and there is always a new government if there is traditional leadership never goes.”
The King noted that traditional leaders can serve as a guide to governments and facilitate development.
This, he said, is the easiest and sure way to bridge the gap between governments and the people in bringing development to their doorsteps.
“Traditional leader is a birthright. You are forever there which means the central government can rely on the traditional leadership to find ways and means to develop the country.
“The traditional leadership is always there with the people. They know the challenges and difficulties that each area is going through and they are the ones who can actually give good advice to all the executive so that the executive carry out development programmes.”
