Asantehene Formally Announces Enstoolment of New Asantehemaa to Asanteman

The King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has formally informed the Asanteman Council of the enstoolment of a new Asantehemaa, the Queen Mother of the Asante Kingdom.

The announcement was made during the Asanteman Council meeting held on July 27, 2026, at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi.

“Following the demise of Nana Konadu Yiadom III, Asantehemaa, some time ago, the requisite customary rites were performed, paving the way for the enstoolment of a successor. Otumfuo has since appointed his nephew, Nana Ama Konadu, to the high office. She has assumed the stool name Nana Yaa Akyaa II,”  Otumfuo Kyeame Kantankrakyi.

Following the announcement, Nananom took the opportunity to pay homage to Her Majesty at the Asantehemaa’s Palace after the Council meeting.

This formal notification to the Asanteman Council follows an earlier announcement to the Kumasi Traditional Council on July 9, 2026, three days after her enstoolment.

The late Nana Konadu Yiadom III passed away in August 2025 after reigning for eight years.

Her successor is expected to continue her legacy of promoting peace, unity, and cultural values within Asanteman.
