GoldBod Rejects GH¢1 Billion Overdraft Claim As False and Malicious

The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has rejected claims that it owes the Bank of Ghana an unpaid overdraft of GH¢1 billion, describing the allegation as totally false and malicious.

In a statement signed by its Media Relations Officer, Prince Kwame Minkah, GoldBod said it had taken note of a claim by the Member of Parliament for Tano South, Hon. Dr Gideon Boako, that the Board owes the central bank the said amount.

“This claim is totally false and forms part of the deliberate and malicious smear campaign against the GoldBod,” the statement said.

GoldBod stated for the record that it has never at any time since its establishment taken a loan, overdraft or any debt instrument from the Bank of Ghana or any financial institution whatsoever.

“The claim attributed to Dr Gideon Boako is contrived and should be treated with utmost contempt,” it added.

The Board entreated the MP to unequivocally retract and apologise for putting out what it described as falsehood.
