FWSC Mourns CLOGSAG Executive Secretary Dr Isaac Bampoe-Addo
The Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) has paid tribute to the late Executive Secretary of the Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG), Dr Isaac Bampoe-Addo.
In a tribute signed by its Chief Executive, Dr George Smith-Graham, the FWSC said it received the news of Dr Bampoe-Addo’s passing with profound sadness.
The Commission said the news was particularly difficult to comprehend because only last Thursday and Friday, they had been with him at the Stakeholder Engagement on the establishment of the Independent Public Emoluments Commission (IPEC) at the Lancaster Hotel in Accra.
“Throughout the engagement, he was his usual vibrant self, passionate, articulate, intellectually engaging and deeply committed to the interests of public servants and the strengthening of Ghana’s public institutions. He participated fully in the discussions and made thoughtful and important contributions to the emerging IPEC framework. There was nothing about those moments that prepared us for the heartbreaking news that would follow,” Dr Smith-Graham said.
He described Dr Bampoe-Addo as more than the Executive Secretary of CLOGSAG, but a formidable voice in Ghana’s labour relations landscape and a committed advocate for fairness and the welfare of workers.
“Over the years, our respective institutional responsibilities sometimes required us to sit on different sides of the negotiating table, but there was always mutual respect and a shared understanding that social dialogue must ultimately serve the interests of workers, government and our country,” he noted.
Dr Smith-Graham said his passing represents a significant loss not only to CLOGSAG, but also to Organised Labour, the public service, the social partnership community and Ghana as a whole.
“On behalf of the Board, Management and Staff of the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission, and on my own behalf, I extend our deepest condolences to his family, the leadership and entire membership of CLOGSAG, Organised Labour, his colleagues, friends and all who had the privilege of knowing and working with him,” he said.
