Commonwealth Games 2026: Joseph Paul Amoah Wins Men’s 200m in 20.36 Seconds
Joseph Paul Amoah, the All-African Games 200-meter champion, got off to a fast start at the Commonwealth Games, winning Heat 1 of the men’s 200m in 20.36 seconds.
Joseph Paul Amoah, who was named captain of Team Ghana ahead of the country’s medal campaign in Glasgow, Scotland, showed his desire to win a medal at the Commonwealth Games when he claimed Ghana’s only athletics medal, a bronze, at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
Amoah, the national 200-meter record holder, is scheduled to return on Thursday for the semi-finals in order to secure a spot on the podium for a medal after delivering a commanding performance in the heats.
Amoah, a former Prempeh College student, crossed the finish line first in a closely contested race, edging Jamaica’s Christopher Taylor to win the heat after competing in the Commonwealth Games for the third time, after Australia in 2018 and Birmingham in 2022.
