Asantehene Encourages Mehamehene to Be Humble

The Occupant of the Golden Stool, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has counselled the Chief of Mehame in the Ahafo Region, Nana Owusu Konto II, to prioritise service in humility to his people.

At his oath-swearing ceremony on March 10, 2025, the Asantehene underscored the relevance of service and selflessness in leadership as he strongly cautioned him against treating his people with disdain.

“I hate lies, haughtiness, pride and disrespect. As you come, humble yourself so the town elevates you.”

Additionally, Otumfuo advised the chief to prove himself worthy to the Queen who earlier held reservations about him.

“I am giving you this mandate today because your mother (the Queen) sanctioned it. Whatever caused the initial disapproval by her must be attended to. Prove yourself worthy to your mother. Don’t confirm her fears.”

Otumfuo then charged the Family Head with the responsibility of uniting the two leaders.

“The Family Head must unite the Queen and her son. You are in charge of that. All I want is for peace to reign in Mehame.”

Service to Manhyia
His Majesty also encouraged the Mehame Divisional Council to make their presence felt at the Manhyia Palace.

“You have distanced yourself from here since the administrative regions were instituted. After your predecessor swore allegiance, I never saw him again. Don’t follow that path. Recently when Ahafo was segregated from Bono-Ahafo, I began thinking of the chiefs there. How do I think about you if you don’t come? You seem to be satisfied with the Divisional Council status.”
Otumfuo on that note encouraged Nana Konto to prioritise his responsibility to the Palace.

“Do the needful and fulfil all your obligations to me.”
