Otumfuo Cautions RCC Chief Directors Against Silence on Wrong Political Decisions
The Occupant of the Golden Stool, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has warned Chief Directors of Regional Coordinating Councils not to stay silent in the face of wrong decisions for fear of losing their jobs.
Speaking when the delegation called on him at the Manhyia Palace on August 5, 2026, the King of the Asante Kingdom said civil servants must prioritise the interest of Ghana over personal job security.
“Make sure you give sound advice to the political heads. You often fear telling them the truth because you fear losing your jobs, but you will be held accountable for keeping quiet.”
The Monarch stressed that as administrative heads of Regional Coordinating Councils and primary advisors to Regional Ministers, Chief Directors form the foundation of decentralisation.
His Majesty noted that while politicians come and go, the directors remain in office and must answer for the outcomes of policy.
Otumfuo further advised them to adopt proper channels to register their concerns.
“If deaf ears are turned to your advice, document it for future reference. Think about Ghana. Let us see the essence of decentralisation so that every corner of the country can taste and feel it,” he stated.
The delegation, led by the Head of the Local Government Service, Prof. Lord Mensah, was in Kumasi following training workshops for directors in the Ashanti Region.
Members of the delegation included Chief Directors from the Ashanti, Western North, Oti, Western, Volta, and Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Councils, as well as the Local Government Service.
