GACL Expels Two Car Park Workers Over Extortion at AIA

The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) says it has expelled two car park workers from the Accra International Airport (AIA) for allegedly extorting money from passengers.

Managing Director of GACL, Mrs Yvonne Opare, disclosed this to the Parliamentary Committee on Roads and Transport during a visit to the airport.

“Just about two weeks ago, we had two people expelled from the airport as car park workers who ask passengers for money. Instantly, because we were able to zero in on them and identify them, we had them leave immediately,” she said.

Mrs Opare said the company is taking a firm stance against all forms of extortion and misconduct at the airport and is urging the general public to support the effort.

“We are asking the general public to help us address these issues,” she added.

The GACL had earlier urged passengers to report any incidents of extortion by staff or individuals operating within the airport environment.

The company says it has put mechanisms in place to identify and sanction persons found culpable, as part of efforts to improve service delivery and protect travellers.
