MoGCSP, UNICEF and UNFPA Meet to Strengthen Child Marriage Information Portal
The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP), through its Child Marriage Unit and with support from UNICEF and UNFPA, has convened a one-day coordination meeting on the management of the Child Marriage Information Portal.
The meeting sought to strengthen stakeholder coordination, enhance content management, clarify roles and responsibilities, and develop practical strategies for the effective management and sustainability of the portal.
It also reviewed the roles of stakeholder institutions in ensuring the timely submission and validation of data on child marriage-related activities across the country.
Delivering the keynote address on behalf of the Chief Director of MoGCSP, the Head of the Child Marriage Unit, Madam Saphia Tamimu, said ending child marriage requires effective collaboration, strong partnerships, and access to timely, reliable and evidence-based information.
She noted that the Child Marriage Information Portal serves as a critical tool for coordinating national efforts to implement Ghana’s commitments towards ending child marriage and protecting the rights of children, particularly girls.
Madam Tamimu expressed appreciation to UNICEF and UNFPA Ghana for their continuous support to the Ministry in the fight against child marriage.
She emphasised that for the portal to remain relevant, it must be kept current and responsive by ensuring that relevant materials and information are regularly uploaded to the platform at cm.mogcsp.gov.gh.
She further encouraged participants to engage openly, share experiences and propose innovative ideas to improve the portal and enhance its contribution to national efforts to end child marriage.
Speaking at the meeting, Gender Specialist at UNFPA, Dr Doris Mawuse Aglobitse, stated that child marriage remains a significant challenge that undermines the rights, health and future of many girls.
She stressed that addressing the issue requires strong partnerships, reliable data and coordinated action, and reaffirmed UNFPA’s commitment to supporting the Ministry’s efforts through strengthened coordination, improved data management and evidence-based interventions.
Presentations at the meeting focused on the Child Marriage Information Portal, editorial guidelines and ethical considerations.
Participants also discussed strategies to enhance the effectiveness, accessibility and sustainability of the portal as a platform for tracking interventions, reporting cases and monitoring progress towards eliminating child marriage.
