Royal Status of Adumakaasekesehene and Abusuapanin Contested

The royal status of the Chief of Adumakaase-Kesehene, Nana Asenso Kuffo Ababio, and his family head, Opanin Yaw Frimpong, has come under contention in a dispute before the Kumasi Traditional Council.
Two individuals, who identified themselves as Yaw Agyei and Kwadwo Owusu, invoked the Great Oath against the leaders when a case of indiscriminate sale of land involving the chief was called before the Kumasi Traditional Council on July 9, 2026, at the Manhyia Palace.
The chief, who was absent as a result of his visual impairment, was represented by his Abontendomhene and selected kingmakers.
They raised their hands to request a hearing before the Council while standing among the feuding parties.
Yaw was the first to catch the attention of Otumfuo, who gave him the nod to make his submission.
He told the Council that he had earlier invoked the Great Oath against the reigning chief, with the necessary rites performed, but his case had not yet been presented to Otumfuo.
“The Adumakaasekese stool belongs to my family.”Kwadwo also invoked the Great Oath against Yaw, contesting his claim. According to him, Yaw’s family has no connection to the stool.
In accordance with tradition, Yaw responded with the Great Oath, reaffirming his claim.
Reacting to this, Abusuapanin Yaw Frimpong stated that neither of the two is related to the stool.
He further sought the permission of the Council to inform the Adumakaase-Kesehene about the development for his advice and further action.
The permission was granted by the Asantehene.
