Olu of Warri Seeks Stronger Ties Among African Monarchs

The Olu of Warri Kingdom in Nigeria, His Royal Majesty Ogiame Atuwatse III, has called for deeper cooperation among African monarchs to advance peacebuilding, youth development, and a shared economic vision for the continent.
He made the call at the ‘World-Meets-in-Ghana Executive Dinner Ball’ held on April 24, 2026, at the Manhyia Palace, Kumasi, in honour of Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s 27th enstoolment anniversary.
Addressing dignitaries at the event, the Olu of Warri stressed that traditional rulers have a collective responsibility to leverage their influence for continental progress.
“With deeper cooperation, we can all share in the work of peacebuilding, youth development, and economic vision. This is certainly a collective continental responsibility,” he stated.
According to him, collaboration among traditional leaders is critical at a time when the continent faces challenges ranging from conflict to youth unemployment.
“Peace enables growth, investment, and dignity. When monarchs work together, we amplify that peace and create pathways for our young people and our economies,” he added.
Monarchy as a Stabilizing Force
The Olu of Warri defined monarchy as a stabilizing force in modern Africa, noting that the institution is both God-ordained and people-focused.
“I say this because God ordained it, and the ancestors who have preserved it are all watching — to ensure that you do better than they did and that you hand an enviable inheritance to those who come after you. Therefore, it comes with cultural authority, moral voice, and continuity,” he explained.
Solidarity
The Olu of Warri Kingdom used the occasion to affirm solidarity between the Warri Kingdom and the Asante Kingdom, pledging his continued goodwill to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
He prayed for longevity for the Asantehene and commended his 27 years of “steady and disciplined leadership,” describing him as a builder and guardian of peace whose influence has extended beyond Ghana.
“Otumfuo, in his own regal way, represents the face of Ghana. I make it clear that peace enables growth, investment, and dignity. It leads to outcomes in communities built on trust and continuity,” he said
