Asante Akyem Agogohemaa Hosts 40-Day Observance for Late Chief

The Queen of Asante Akyem Agogo Traditional Area, Nana Juaben Afrakoma Serwaa Kusi Oboadum, has led the 40-day observance of the late Paramount Chief, Nana Kwame Akuoko Sarpong, occupant of the Ofori Krobon Stool.
The solemn ceremony was held at the Agogo Palace on June 4, 2026, in line with Akan custom.
It featured traditional rites, prayers, and tributes from family, elders, and well-wishers.
Attendees
The observance brought together a large gathering of chiefs, queens, government officials, and residents of Agogo.
Dignitaries present included Nana Okyere Kusi Ntrama, Essumegyahene; Barima Sarfo Tweneboah Kodua, Kumawuhene; Nana Agyakoma Difie II, Mampongmanhemaa; Nana Yaa Adutwumwaa Mmorosa, Ahafo Kenyase No.1 Manhemaa; and other traditional leaders.
Former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and Ashanti Regional Minister Dr Frank Amoakohene also joined the Traditional Council, family, and friends to commiserate with them.

Nana Kwame Akuoko Sarpong died after reigning for 51 years.
The Traditional Council, together with Nana Juaben Afrakoma Serwaa Kusi Oboadum and the Etia Aduana Royal Family, formally announced his passing in a statement issued this week.
Beyond his traditional role, Nana Akuoko Sarpong was a prominent national figure.
He served as a Member of Parliament for Asante Akyem North under the Popular Front Party from 1979 to 1981.
He later served under the PNDC and NDC governments as Minister of Health, Minister of the Interior, Presidential Staffer for Chieftaincy Affairs, and Chairman of the Commission on Culture.
He was also a member of the Council of State, a respected legal practitioner, and a firm advocate for education.
The 40-day observance marks a key milestone in Akan funeral rites as the community continues to mourn and prepare for the next phase of enstoolment.
