The Surveillance Unit of the National Operations Department and the Ashanti North Regional Police have foiled a planned robbery and recovered weapons linked to a notorious robbery syndicate.
Acting on intelligence, a police team on June 2, 2026, moved in on Ali Mohammed, 23, at Kukuom in the Ahafo Region, who was wanted for the shooting and murder of one Dominic Frimpong on the Akyiresu–Kwame Dwomo Sreso road on April 12, 2026.
He was also wanted over two robbery attacks at Bosomkyekye on the Mampong–Ejura road in July 2025 and February 2026 that led to the death of a driver’s mate.
During the operation, the suspect opened fire with an AK-47 rifle but was overpowered. He sustained gunshot injuries and was sent to Goaso Government Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police retrieved: 1 AK-47 rifle, 1 pump-action gun, 2 AK-47 magazines, 9 rounds of ammunition, 3 mobile phones, a motorbike ignition key, a black nose mask, 4 talismans, and a sack.
The Ghana Police Service said efforts are ongoing to arrest other members of the syndicate, including Omar Chad, Dauda Tahidu, Suley, and other accomplices still at large.
