Asantehene Expected to Attend the Black Stars’ Opening World Cup Match at BMO Field

The Monarch of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, is slated to engage with the Black Stars and be in attendance at BMO Field in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

The Manhyia Palace issued a statement on June 2, 2026, to confirm that His Royal Majesty had arrived in Washington on Monday, June 1, to attend to other pressing matters.

The King of the Asante Kingdom is expected to remain in the United States until June 14th, when he travels to Canada for the Ghana-Canada World Cup Business Summit organised by the Canada Ghana Chamber of Commerce (CANCHAM).

The Black Stars of Ghana, who have qualified for their fifth World Cup appearance and will play their sixteenth game at the World Cup, will face the Red Tide of Panama on July 17, 2026, at the BMO Field in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

His Royal Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu will attend a breakfast business meeting, participate in the opening of Sankofa Square and the Ghana Sports Village, interact with the Black Stars, and lead the Ghanaian delegation to support the Black Stars of Ghana during his four-day visit to Canada.

The BMO Field will host Canada’s opening fixture of the FIFA World Cup 2026 against Bosnia and Herzegovina on Friday, 12 June 2026, with five further matches to be held at the venue, including Ghana against Panama.

The Black Stars of Ghana have arrived in the United States of America and received a heroic welcome from Ghanaians in the diaspora at T. F. Green International Airport, where the team will be based at Bryant University in Rhode Island.
