NHIS Enrols 1.4 Million During “King’s Month” Campaign in Honour of Otumfuo

The National Health Insurance Scheme has exceeded its enrollment target during the “King’s Month” campaign, registering 1,484,174 subscribers throughout May in honour of the Occupant of the Golden Stool, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

The month-long initiative, held as Otumfuo marked his 76th birthday, aimed to boost coverage by registering new members and renewing existing ones.

NHIS had set an initial target of one million subscribers, but by the end of May, the figure stood at 1,484,174.

That total included 51,976 new registrations and 1,432,198 renewals, the Ashanti Regional Director of NHIS, Alhaji Mohammed Muntaka Muniru, disclosed at a media briefing in Kumasi.

He said the milestone would not have been possible without the confidence and support of key stakeholders, particularly the board of the National Health Insurance Authority.

Alhaji Muniru singled out the Manhyia Palace and chiefs across the region for what he described as unprecedented support.

“Nananom, we are sincerely grateful and humbled by your immense assistance,” he said.

He also commended NHIS staff for their dedication beyond normal working hours, noting that “if we were to use normal working hours, it would have been almost impossible to achieve it.”

The Regional Director further praised the media for its role in public sensitisation.

He announced that “King’s Month” has come to stay and will be observed annually during the same period.
