Abrade Belongs to Asona, Not Oyoko – Otumfuo Declares

The occupant of the Golden Stool, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has declared that the Abrade Stool is the possession of the Asona Royal Clan and not Oyoko.
The declaration followed a closed-door meeting with the Oyoko side after a committee had probed the case.
On August 3, 2026, Otumfuo noted that the case related to his uncle’s family — Otumfuo Agyemang Prempeh — and that was why he opted to meet the family privately rather than hear the case in open court.
“My uncle appointed his wife to the female stool, and since then, her descendants have occupied it,” he stated.
The Asantehene urged the Asona clan to exercise patience until the current queenmother passes before the stool reverts to them.
“Once she is no more, the stool will come back to you. The Oyoko will not ascend any longer,” he said.
Meanwhile, on a border dispute raised by Nana Saasi Ayeboafo II, Mampongtenghene, concerning Abrade during the Council meeting, His Majesty settled it, stating that they are separated by the Owabe River.
