CPA Wants Temu, Four Other E-Commerce Platforms Sanctioned Over Unregistered Imports

The Consumer Protection Agency (CPA) has demanded sanctions against five e-commerce platforms operating in Ghana, including Temu, over the sale of uncertified and unregistered imported products.
In a statement issued on June 2, 2026, the CPA said its investigations showed the platforms were facilitating the commercial sale and delivery of imported goods without meeting mandatory regulatory requirements by the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) and the Ghana Standards Authority (GSA).
The CPA noted that some of the items being sold online include medicines and health devices, which require FDA approval due to their potential impact on public health.
The agency’s recommendation followed multiple consumer complaints about defective and potentially unsafe products bought through the platforms.
It cited a case where a cream marketed as a belly-fat reducer allegedly caused severe skin burns, and another where an electronic device reportedly exploded while charging.
According to the CPA, these incidents highlight the dangers of selling unregistered and unvetted imports to consumers.
It urged online marketplaces and delivery companies to ensure all imported products comply with FDA and GSA regulations, warning that operators found in breach could face legal sanctions.
The agency also reaffirmed its commitment to working with the FDA, GSA, and the Ghana Revenue Authority to identify and remove unregistered, non-compliant products from both physical and online marketplaces.
