Ghana Medical Trust Fund Explores Diagnostic Partnerships to Expand Patient Access
The Ghana Medical Trust Fund (GMTF) is moving to broaden access to quality diagnostics for beneficiaries under its Patient Support Programme.
In line with this, the Administrator, Adjoa Obuobia Darko-Opoku, paid a visit to MDS-Lancet Laboratories and Quest Medical Imaging on Wednesday.
The delegation held discussions with the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of MDS-Lancet, Dr Paul Sekyere-Nyantakyi, and his team on how to leverage the laboratory’s nationwide network to deliver timely, high-quality diagnostic services.
The talks also focused on aligning service delivery with the Trust Fund’s approved tariffs to ensure efficiency, transparency and sustainability for beneficiaries.
After the meeting, the team toured MDS-Lancet’s advanced laboratory facilities, led by Operations Manager Dr Georgette M. Peprah.
The visit covered the phlebotomy and sample collection centre, as well as the microbiology, biochemistry, haematology and pathology laboratories.
The delegation observed the cutting-edge technology, strict quality standards and specialised systems that support accurate and timely diagnoses.
The tour also included the procurement, stores, biomedical engineering, IT, finance and logistics units, showcasing the integrated operations behind one of Ghana’s leading diagnostic laboratories.
The visit ended at Quest Medical Imaging, a sister facility to MDS-Lancet. The delegation toured its state-of-the-art imaging centre, which offers MRI, CT Scan, Mammography, Fluoroscopy, Ultrasound and Digital X-ray services.
According to the Trust Fund, quality diagnosis is the foundation of effective treatment. It stated that partnerships like these will help strengthen access to specialised diagnostics and bring life-saving care closer to more patients across Ghana.
