Interior Ministry, KNUST Explore Technology-Driven Campus Security
The Ministry of Interior and the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) have explored areas of collaboration, particularly strengthening security on campus through technology.
This was during a courtesy call by Vice Chancellor Prof. Christian Agyare on the Minister for the Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak.
The meeting focused on issues of mutual interest, including the deployment of technology to enhance security, improve information sharing, and address emerging security challenges within the university environment.
Prof. Agyare expressed KNUST’s interest in working closely with the Ministry and its security agencies to develop innovative approaches to campus security, including technology-driven solutions to improve the safety of students, staff, and visitors.
In his remarks, Hon. Muntaka congratulated Prof. Agyare on his appointment and commended KNUST for its contribution to education, research, and national development.
He welcomed the proposal for enhanced collaboration and described the use of technology to bridge security gaps as an area where the Ministry is already pursuing several initiatives.
Hon. Muntaka noted that the Ministry is working to expand the use of technology across its agencies and services, including facilitating online background checks nationwide to make the process more efficient and accessible.
The Minister assured the KNUST delegation of his full support for the University’s security initiatives and welcomed collaboration on technology, research, and innovation in the security sector.
He further assured the University of increased police visibility on campus, including regular police patrols, to enhance security and provide a safe environment for teaching, learning, and research.
