Nations FC Receives Asantehene’s Blessings Ahead of Continental Campaign
MTN FA Cup champions, Nations FC, has received royal blessings from the Occupant of the Golden Stool, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, ahead of their maiden CAF Confederation Cup campaign.
Led by founder and bankroller Dr Kwame Kyei, the club’s playing body and technical team joined dignitaries at the fifth Akwasidae Festival durbar held at the Manhyia Palace on Sunday, July 19, 2026.
The visit was to formally present the FA Cup trophy to His Majesty and to seek his blessings before representing Ghana on the continental stage.
Speaking at the durbar, Abrankese Nyameanihene, Nana Opoku Amponsem, announced the purpose of the delegation to the gathering of chiefs and subjects.
“In 2026, Nations FC won the MTN FA Cup. His players and technical team are here to present their trophy,” Nana Opoku Amponsem told the gathering on behalf of the delegation.
The team used the audience to officially inform the Asantehene of their historic FA Cup triumph and to request his support for their upcoming assignment in Africa.
“We are here to take his blessings to face the continental clubs,” the spokesperson said as the players, dressed in their club paraphernalia, presented the trophy to Otumfuo.
The Asantehene, who was seated in state, received the delegation warmly.
He commended Nations FC for the achievement and urged them to go and make Ghana proud in the CAF Confederation Cup.
The royal blessings are considered significant in Asanteman, with many clubs traditionally seeking the Asantehene’s favour before embarking on major national and international assignments.
Nations FC booked their ticket to Africa after lifting the 2026 MTN FA Cup, marking the first time in the club’s history that they will compete in a CAF inter-club competition.
The Confederation Cup campaign is expected to begin later this year, with the draw scheduled by CAF in the coming months.
The club is now expected to intensify preparations as they aim to become the next Ghanaian side to make a deep run in continental football.
