Memphis To Hold A Gala In Honour Of Otumfuo’s 72nd Birthday

Organisers of the Memphis in May International Festival will on May 6, 2022, hold the “Black Star Black Tie Gala” in honour of the seventy-second (72) birthday of the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

This will be held in the course of this year’s Memphis In May international Festival in Memphis, Tennessee during Memphis In May week which will spring from May 2 to May 8, 2022, and will be graced by the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

Ahead of that, the king will attend the “Ghana Live Riches & Rhythms” performance at the Orpheum Theatre on May 5 where some Ghanaian artists will be performing.

Ghana’s rap doctor, Okyeame Kwame is scheduled to perform at the gala on May 6.

On May 7, the royal visit to Memphis will culminate with the King conducting a traditional Durbar Ceremony on historic Beale Street.

His visit to the event will be the first in the last thirty-one (31) years since the Māori Queen attended the festival salute to New Zealand.

This year’s festival salute is in honour of Ghana.
