Mahama Bids Farewell to Gabonese President as Official Visit Ends
President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema of Gabon has left Accra after a three-day official visit aimed at strengthening ties between Ghana and Gabon.
President Oligui Nguema and his delegation, which included cabinet ministers and senior officials, were seen off at Accra International Airport by President John Dramani Mahama and other top officials.
The visit marked a major step forward in Ghana-Gabon relations, highlighted by the signing of two important Memoranda of Understanding.
One MoU sets up regular high-level diplomatic talks, while the other focuses on cooperation in diplomatic training between Ghana’s Foreign Service Institute and Gabon’s Institute of Diplomatic Studies.
The two leaders discussed Africa’s growth and governance in detail. Presidents Mahama and Oligui Nguema confirmed their support for the African Union’s Agenda 2063 and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals for 2030. They agreed that unity and working together are essential for Africa’s peace and economic progress.
In a joint communique, both leaders promised to follow the principles of the AU Constitutive Act and the UN Charter. They also confirmed their commitment to supporting democracy, constitutional order, the rule of law, and regional security throughout Africa.
The two presidents called on African countries to work together to fight against xenophobia, intolerance, and all types of discrimination that could harm unity across the continent.
