IJM Reaffirms Commitment to Partnering with the Govt to Protect Children from Trafficking and Exploitation

The International Justice Mission (IJM) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening its partnership with the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection to protect children from trafficking, exploitation and other forms of violence.

West Africa Director of IJM, Ms Anita Budu, made this known when she led a delegation on a courtesy call on the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection.

Ms Budu said IJM had worked with the Ministry since 2015 to strengthen child protection systems and support government efforts to combat child trafficking and exploitation.

She explained that the visit was to formally engage the Minister, share highlights of the partnership, and reaffirm IJM’s commitment to supporting efforts to safeguard children.

Responding, the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Hon. Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, welcomed the delegation and commended IJM for its continued support.

She noted that child protection requires strong collaboration between government and development partners and expressed the Ministry’s readiness to deepen the partnership to achieve greater impact.

The Minister highlighted progress made through the partnership, citing IJM’s support for systems strengthening, advocacy, joint rescue operations, public education on child protection laws, and interventions to address child labour.

Hon. Dr Lartey described the collaboration as one of the Ministry’s strongest partnerships, noting that it has become more responsive to government priorities and continues to contribute significantly to the implementation of the National Plan of Action on child protection.
