Gov’t Rescues 376 Ghanaians From QNET Trafficking Syndicates in Côte d’Ivoire, Togo and Liberia
The government of Ghana has rescued and repatriated 376 Ghanaians from fraudulent recruitment and trafficking syndicates operating in Côte d’Ivoire, Togo and Liberia, with most of the victims linked to the QNET scam.
At a presser, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, said the government was deeply concerned about the growing activities of these syndicates in West Africa, which lure victims with false promises of employment and overseas migration.
He explained that the modus operandi of the scammers is to claim that visa arrangements can only be processed from a neighbouring country.
“However, when the victim arrives, he or she is made to surrender their passports, mobile phones and financial resources to the network operators and subjected to psychological manipulation and pressure to recruit relatives and friends into the same scheme,” he said.
In response, the Minister said Government has strengthened collaboration with neighbouring countries, including the Ivorian Anti-Human Trafficking Agency and other security institutions.
He noted that since January 2026, 61 Ghanaian nationals have been rescued from various locations in Côte d’Ivoire, with 45 already repatriated.
An additional 315 Ghanaians were also assisted to return home following enforcement operations in Port Bouët and surrounding communities.
Hon. Ablakwa welcomed Côte d’Ivoire’s decision to criminalise QNET-related activities and to strengthen its anti-human trafficking framework.
He added that Government has also intervened to repatriate Ghanaians from Togo and Liberia who were lured to those countries through the same fraudulent QNET recruitment schemes.
The Minister urged the public to verify all overseas opportunities before travelling.
“The Ministry continues to educate and create awareness within the public to verify overseas opportunities before travelling,” he said.
