GoldBod to Roll Out Mine-to-Export Traceability System by August

The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) will, by the end of August, procure a new traceability system to track all gold purchased from mine to export, as part of efforts to enhance transparency and meet international standards.

This was disclosed by the Chief Executive Officer of GoldBod, Sammy Gyamfi, Esq., when the Parliamentary Select Committee on Economy and Development paid a working visit to the Board.

According to Mr Gyamfi, the traceability system is central to GoldBod’s mandate to ensure responsible sourcing and accountability across the gold value chain.

“The system will make it possible for us to trace all gold purchased from the mine to export. This is critical for transparency, responsible sourcing, and meeting international standards,” he told the Committee.

Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Eric Afful, said the visit was to assess GoldBod’s impact on the economy, particularly in gold trading, foreign exchange inflows, reserve accumulation, and value addition.

Mr Gyamfi used the opportunity to brief the MPs on GoldBod’s transformation from the Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC) into the Ghana Gold Board. He highlighted the Board’s licensing framework, funding model, and the ongoing review of the Ghana Gold Board Act, 2025 (Act 1140).

He also updated the Committee on GoldBod’s partnerships with large-scale mining companies, gold aggregation performance for 2025 and 2026, and the rollout of a new trading model.

The CEO added that the traceability initiative forms part of broader efforts to promote responsible mining and value addition in Ghana’s gold sector.

Hon. Afful commended GoldBod for the progress made and pledged the Committee’s support for legislative measures to strengthen the Board’s operations.
