Ghana Targets AfCFTA Gains as MoTAI Partners with ASSETS to Prepare SMEs for Continental Trade

The Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, MoTAI, says it is partnering with the African Startups and SMEs Empowerment and Trade Support (ASSETS) to position Ghanaian startups and SMEs to take full advantage of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
Deputy Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Hon. Sampson Ahi, gave the assurance on Thursday, July 9, 2026, when he received a delegation from ASSETS, led by its Team Lead, Mr Peter Adetor, during a courtesy call in Accra.
Mr Ahi said the collaboration will focus on building the capacity of local businesses to meet export standards and compete across the continent.
“Government is committed to working with strategic partners to create real opportunities for our local enterprises to expand into regional and global markets under AfCFTA,” he said.
During the meeting, the delegation proposed key areas of collaboration including capacity building, export readiness programmes, trade missions, and support for the effective implementation of AfCFTA protocols.
They also raised policy issues affecting SME trade, particularly access to finance, regulatory compliance, and market access.
Mr Ahi commended ASSETS for its commitment to supporting Ghanaian businesses and promoting intra-African trade, adding that MoTAI is ready to align its trade and industrialisation agenda with initiatives that prepare SMEs for continental trade.
ASSETS, a pan-African non-profit organisation headquartered in Accra, is dedicated to helping African startups and SMEs access global markets.
