Ghana-South Africa Visa-Free Agreement Still In Force- Ablakwa

Government has dismissed reports that Ghana has been removed from South Africa’s visa-free travel arrangement, stating categorically that the existing reciprocal visa waiver agreement between the two countries remains fully in force.

Speaking at a press briefing, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, addressed claims that circulated on both traditional and social media alleging that Ghana had lost the benefit of visa-free travel to South Africa.

“As the South African authorities have themselves indicated, no such decision has been taken on this matter, which is governed by an agreement applicable on a reciprocal basis,” Hon. Ablakwa said.

He urged the public to disregard the reports, noting that any amendment to bilateral travel arrangements would be communicated formally through diplomatic channels and announced jointly by the two Governments.

Hon. Ablakwa described the incident as an example of “the growing challenge posed by misinformation and disinformation campaigns during periods of crisis.”

“The Government will continue to respond promptly to false reports that have the potential to undermine Ghana’s reputation, affect public confidence, or prejudice the interests of Ghanaian citizens,” he stated.

He encouraged the public to rely on verified information issued through official Government channels.
